Bible Study for New Believers
What is the Bible?
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right." 2 Timothy 3:16
"Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God." 2 Peter 1:20-21
The Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is the Word of God written in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek) by the pen of approximately 40 men in different countries at various times (1400 B.C.--90 A.D.), pointing to and teaching us about the redemptive work of God for mankind, finished in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God become man, and His complete and final judgement of all creation.

A born again "believer" in Jesus Christ is synonymous with being a "follower" of Christ.

"Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness." 1 Peter 2:2-3
1. Studying the Bible will lead to growth and understanding
As a new believer, do you see benefit to learning the basics of God's Word?
What is your attitude toward learning the Word of God?
What is the "taste of the Lord's kindness" for new believers?
What will studying the Word of God do for you?
2. Studying the Bible will lead to change
"Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth." John 17:17
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17
"And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns." Philippians 1:6
What does "make them holy" mean to you?
How can the Bible teach us what is true?
How can God "prepare and equip" you?
As a new Believer, what is the "good work" God has begun in you? How is your life changing?
3. Studying the Bible provides lasting stability
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Matthew 7:24-27
What is the "solid rock" Jesus is referring to, upon which a "wise" person builds a house?
What response to Jesus' teaching made a "wise" person in this illustration?
What maintained the integrity and structure of this house despite dire external circumstances?
The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul.
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.
Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever.
