Word of Encouragement

I know many men often struggle to say “I love you” to those close to them. I get it. But what I encourage you consider and are failing to understand is that people need to hear those words, often desperately. Would you forego giving a glass of water to someone stranded in the desert? Of course not. Am I suggesting the analogy—stranded, parched, dying of thirst—is consistent or even relevant metaphor for the human condition, our need to be told we are loved? Yes, a thousand times yes! People are starving to hear those words (and I would add compliments, sincere compliments). Take a deep breath. Stand up. Get over yourself and go for it! It costs you nothing. Here is the best part: in so doing, not only does it enrich the lives around you, but you yourself will derive a great deal of satisfaction. Trust me. And it gets easier with the pleasure you will experience. In as much as it may make you uncomfortable to tell and show others—especially loved ones—how you feel and their value in your life, I urge you to communicate love often, everywhere and with sincerity.

Say "I love you" often
to those you love and to strangers
and in both cases…
Sometimes even use words.
