I Don't See or Hear Him
In your home or office, lying on a sunny beach or a darkened bedroom, in a pew at church or a park with children; among family, friends, colleagues, other Believers or even strangers, we sometimes ask: is God really here, among us? How do you know? Doesn't feel like it sometimes. Why can't I see or hear Him? Many living before and among us ask the very same perplexing questions, posed for centuries, leaving some to feel afraid, confused, frustrated, even angry.
Feelings
We hear all the time that people find peace from their belief in God. That faith serves as an anchor, grounding them, providing a sense of purpose, direction, and moral framework. Sounds good. How? Many believe, often privately and with testing or merit, it's about how I feel. It's true. When experiencing a moving worship service or listening to an inspiring spiritual song, countless Christians deduce that their (often intense) feelings bring them closer to God or render them more "accepted" by Him. Still others decide that if "things" are going well (job, bank account, spouse, children, health, people like and care about them, favorite teams are winning, garden is flowering, weather is nice...etc.) that they are in God's "will" and all is well. These fluctuating conditions and events are about as stable as holding water in your cupped palm while jogging.
Does Understanding God's Presence Really Matter?
Can God significantly impact our daily lives? Do you want Him to? For some, seeking the answer to this and many other religious questions is a lifelong pursuit, one they claim enriches their faith and guides their actions. For others, it is a focus on living according to principles promoted by their religion rather than seeking feelings or daily impact. What truly matters? What does He want? Is He here, among us, influencing our behavior, decisions, and interactions with others?
Again, do you want Him to? If your answer is yes (and I hope it is), He is available, right now.
